About us

" According to the Daily Telegraph (30 June 2001) I have a reputation for being 'outspoken and abrasive'. But I simply tell my clients the truth as I see it, without too much gloss or varnish because that's what I'm there for. The same applies to colleagues and suppliers.
I think it's nice to be nice. But it's also nice to be straight.
"

What can we do for you?

Since we launched Pacific Shack, in June 2004, we’ve made it our mission to deliver great quality design at great value for money. We also think our clients should enjoy working with us.
We can create you:
• A new brand identity that sings your values from the rooftops
• Stunning, hard working websites
• Engaging, effective brochures and direct mail
• Catalogues that have products walking off the page

To get you the results you need and make the process pleasurable for all of us, we focus on getting the brief right first. We’ll quiz you until we understand your business and the design challenge. Then we’ll put the brief down in writing so we are all clear on what’s needed.

Only when you’re happy we’ve got it right will we start brainstorming ideas, trying solutions and challenging ourselves to produce the best possible design. In the tradition of classic innovation, we’ll always explore several solutions before we settle on the one that best meets your brief. And we’ll listen to your feedback because you are the expert in your business.

Once the design is approved, we have the expertise in-house to produce production quality artwork and to manage your print projects for you when you need our help. Our commitment to the project won’t stop till you have the final item in your hands.

Ian Fraser

Ian brings balance and exquisite attention to detail to every project. With great design, the devil is in the details and Ian ensures a virtuous harmony is instilled in all design and interactive projects he leads.

Ian is co owner and Creative Director of Pacific Shack, a design agency based in Grey Lynn, Auckland. Ian started the business with his wife Debbie in July 2004. Ian is also a Director of The Expo Group which hosts an annual Motorsport show in Auckland called Speedshow.

Ian's career has taken him around the world, starting in London in 1997. Whilst finishing his diploma at the Oxfordshire School of Art and Design, he successfully gained a work placement at Newell and Sorrell (now renamed Interbrand), and was one of the fortunate few to work on the identity for British Airways. This kick started his career and immediately landed his first job at London agency Foresight for clients such as the BBC, Walt DIsney and Warner Brothers Music. Ian's path then took him in to the corporate sector producing identities and annual reports at Bravo Design. Ian left London in 1999 and traveled around Australia. During this time he settled in Sydney and worked for agencies Advertising Partners and Spire, producing work for VISA and the Sydney 2000 Olympics. After Sydney, Ian traveled across New Zealand and the United States, before returning to London in 2001. He then worked again at Bravo until 2002, when he set up new media agency Frank's Ice Store with Richard Young. Ian decided during this time living down under was a better life than the grey skies of London, and at the end of 2003 he moved to New Zealand with his wife Debbie. Once in Auckland Ian worked for Dashwood Design, DNA and Collenso on Freelance basis, before joining as head creative for the web development team at Telecom Advanced Solutions - now gen-i. Ian's wife Debbie started Pacific Shack in July 2004 through an opportunity to pick up our first client Chrisco. Ian left his position when his department merged with gen-i, and went to work full time for Pacific Shack, where he resides today.
